“What tools do we use to make maths real?”

Our discussion started out with the posed question “What tools do we use to make maths real?” Responses included having students write, using concrete objects and using real life examples.  The following websites were shared as resources:



Overall there are many tools we could use to make math real and concrete,  however, some teachers not familiar or comfortable using these tools such as the graphing calculator, excel spread sheet, or measuring devices. Also math is usually taught in isolation, to make math more real for students, math needs to be taught across the curriculum. To make math a reality for students teachers need to embrace math and they also need to be provided with more math related professional developments.
